Whether making a motivational speech, presenting a report, or just “getting your point across,” most individuals find themselves in situations where professional presentation skills are helpful — and often critical — to career success. The purpose of a professional presentation is to convey information clearly and convincingly to an audience. COR’s Basic Certification in Presenting Professionally (PP) equips individuals in the basic skills for preparing and making effective presentations of many types.

The necessary competencies in this area are:

  • All Foundational Competencies plus

  • These Professional Presenting content competencies (PPC):
    PPC1: Sufficient knowledge base on topic of presentation
    PPC2: Clarity on the goal of the presentation
    PPC3: Knowledge of adult learning principles

  • These Professional Presenting skill competencies (PPS):
    PPS1: Demonstrated evidence of preparation for the presentation
    PPS2: Presents information clearly
    PPS3: Uses stories, metaphors, examples, humor, explanations, questions, and clarification appropriate to the presentation’s purpose
    PPS4: Demonstrates ability to prepare and use several modalities (e.g., hand-outs, Powerpoint, film) as appropriate to the presentation’s purpose
    PPS5: Solicits audience participation as appropriate to the presentation’s purpose
    PPS6: Able to hold an audience’s interest and attention

  • These Professional Presenting dispositional competencies (PPD):
    PPD 1: Authenticity is evident
    PPD 2: Demonstrates growing confidence in presentation situations

COR will provide at least one workshop per year which addresses the competencies in each area of certification, although individuals are not required to participate in order to apply for Basic Certification in any area. Demonstration of the competencies required for this basic certification can be achieved through the portfolio process.
