2012 Heartfilms

Have you ever come across a movie that just left you feeling indescribably good? Or a movie that made you stop and think about life around you, the people you see everyday or don’t see, or even your own actions? That one film where you just had to tell someone about what you discovered? These are all components to what makes a Heartfilm. COR sets aside a night once a month for people to come and share an experience together in front a movie screen. There’s sure to be laughter, sometimes tears, the must-have popcorn and great conversation.

Babies

A new year is already here! And with a new year comes a new line up for the much anticipated 2012 Heartfilms. At least in my head they are much anticipated. The official 2012 list of films along with the full year’s list of dates can be found on COR’s website at www.corhome.org/heartfilms with an accompanying Heartfilms 2012 trailer for your viewing pleasure.

I’ve noticed an odd thing during the past 7 ½ months I’ve been pregnant. When you’re pregnant, you tend to think about babies… a lot. I dream about babies and little baby feet protruding from my belly. I take extra time to ooh and aww over friend’s babies calling them the cutest things even though I’m convinced mine will be cuter. I make my husband walk with me through the baby section of stores whether he wants to or not, usually not. If you ask me, pregnancy is 9 months of a single obsession…babies.

So who would like to take a guess at the name of this month’s Heartfilm? It’s “Babies!” This a wonderfully made documentary following the first year of life of four little ones in four different countries. The director shares these four beautiful and fascinating individual journeys without using words or narrative. It’s amazing how different an environment can be where a child is raised but still so many similarities remain. I love this approach to documenting not only the various cultures but the telling of a universal right of passage, the first year of life. So come join us for this year’s first Heartfilm, “Babies.”

Heartfilms will be held at the COR offices on Tuesday night, January 24th at 6:30pm. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email me at heartfilms@corhome.org. For directions and more Heartfilm information, I’ll refer you to the website again at www.corhome.org/heartfilms. Here is to another year of wonderful friends and fantastic discussions that 2012 is sure to bring.
